For four generations the Van Reenen family has been carving out a living on the rural lands of the picturesque Eastern Free State they call home, and it had been a long-held dream to share this amazing lifestyle and experience with others.
This dream began taking shape about five years ago when the family embarked on an ambitious project to make their vision for their beloved land a reality, and a true gem was born.
The Rietfontein Manor House, built from rich honey-coloured, honed sandstone, was home to the Jacobs family from the late 1800s until the Van Reenen family acquired their neighbouring farm Rietfontein in the early 1990s. Rietfontein is the biggest single-title deed farm in the Free State, spanning nearly 5 000 hectares of land.
Our climate is characterised by warm to hot summers and cool to very cold winters, each season providing a unique experience. Precipitation during the summer months (October to March) in the form of larger-than-life thunderstorms is welcomed as it brings some relief from the heat. You can expect some frost during winter (June to August) with cold nights, but the days are sunny and the sky is mostly clear and blue.
Rietfontein is situated a mere 180 km (about 1.5 hours’ drive) from the Bloemfontein international airport and 360 km (about 3.5 hours’ drive) from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Airport transfers are available.
